RSCE 8th Client Board Meeting, where “Business as usual, is not enough"

Dejan Stepanovic

The Regional Service Centre Entebbe hosted its 8th Client Board Meeting attended by all Directors and Chiefs of Mission Support or their representatives for UN field operations in Africa and the RSCE Senior Management.

The RSCE Client Board is an important forum which provides an expert advisory role to the Chief, RSCE and reports directly to the RSCE Steering Committee through the Client Board Chair. The board reviews and addresses operational issues raised by the Chief HRs and Chief Finance as well as the relationship between the Center and its clients.

Chaired by the Director of Mission Support in UNMISS, the Board Meeting was the first-ever Virtual meeting held, specifically designed and tailored for the Video Teleconference meeting in an effort to reduce travel costs.

In line with Secretary General’s agenda where ”business, as usual, is not enough” pointing out the importance of strong cooperation between the missions and the RSCE, Mr. Djomo presented the relentless effort of the RSCE on improving service provision and relationship between the Center and its clients. The improvements also touched on the quality of the existing processes.

Among the number of new initiatives implemented by the Centre, some stood out: the introduction of digital signatures, the RSCE paperless project for payment of vendors and the Digitalization Project for filing and onboarding of staff, to reduce the centre’s carbon footprint and processing time;

Ms. Benta Aseto, in charge of the RSCE Client Service Pillar, provided a comprehensive overview of the client support and query management, highlighting a new RSCE forward-thinking approach to Client Services which has resulted in a reduced average Client query resolution time below industry standard

All these initiatives did not go unnoticed among the RSCE clients. Ms. Uchenna Odenigbo, Chief of Mission Support of United Nations Office for West Africa and Sahel, (UNOWAS) commended the responsiveness of the RSCE Travel Service line, noting the increased efficiency in the area of Travel.

The board closed several outstanding recommendations from previous meetings which is the result of the coordination and a good relationship between the Center and its clients.

This was the last Client Board Meeting for its Chairperson, Ms. Victoria Browning. Ms Browning wholeheartedly thanked all the members of the board and the RSCE for all the support that she has received during her time as the chair.
