RSCE Donates 20 Laptops to Schools on International Day of Digital Learning
The Regional Service Centre Entebbe (RSCE) joined UNICEF and Airtel Uganda to provide access to digital literacy to the Kasengejje Secondary School by donating 20 laptops.
On the 2nd commemoration of the UNESCO International Day of Digital Learning under the theme Digital learning realities in low-resourced contexts, the RSCE donated the laptops to the school that is the only government aided school in Central Wakiso District.
In 2019, Airtel and UNICEF initiated the Airtel Africa – UNICEF Digital Learning partnership which aims to break barriers to accessing a quality education for Uganda’s children wherever they may be. Under that partnership, Airtel provides free internet connectivity to the schools while UNICEF conducts assessment of schools to be connected, mobilizes partnerships as well as the curriculum content for the learners.
The RSCE is one of these partners who have since donated 90 laptops to UNICEF to facilitate the partnership.
“At the Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, we recognize the significance of Digital Learning especially for the youth. RSCE is committed to a culture that promotes inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for all and that is why we joined UNICEF in this partnership.” Said Paulin Djomo, Director RSCE.
Mr. Djomo, who was accompanied by the Chief of ICT, Mr. Emmanuel Ngor, also pledged an additional donation of 15 laptops and accessories to Busi Island School located in hard-to-reach area on Lake Victoria. He made this pledge after hearing the call for help from the Wakiso District Education Officer. While making the pledge, he urged Airtel and UNICEF to join him in ensuring the school gets connectivity.
“This initiative is also part of a broader effort by UNICEF on Reimagine Education - creating a global movement to support digital transformation by focusing on 3 Cs: Content, Capacity and Connectivity for every child.” Said Thomas Meyerer, UNICEF Uganda Deputy Representative.
This is a vision shared by the RSCE who donated 90 laptops to schools in and around Entebbe last year with a view to digitize the schools and foster digital learning for the youth.
