Ombudsman to host Civility Workshop for Staff in Entebbe

Mark Kaheru

The United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services (UNOMS) office in Entebbe will host Civility and Conflict Management Workshops for all UN Secretariat staff based in Uganda from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 September 2022.

The sessions, which will be held online through MS Teams, will consist of a General Briefing on Ombudsman and Mediation Services and workplace conflict resolution resources in the Secretariat, a workshop on Difficult Conversations and a workshop in upholding Dignity in the workplace through Civility, Communication, Community (C3).

When Civility is present, the workplace becomes a vibrant, healthy and rewarding place.

Aiming to raise awareness and shift mindsets to bolster a positive dynamic in workplace interactions, the C3 workshop provides concrete sets of tools and methodologies to uphold Dignity which will foster Civility in the workplace.

The workshop is delivered in an interactive format presenting videos of talks by known thinkers in the field sharing perspectives on Dignity and how that translates into the behavior of Civility. Thought-provoking and concrete examples of divergent communication styles allow participants to reflect on how communication has the potential to enhance or undermine Dignity. Participants are also invited to brainstorm on what community means and how they can contribute in building a sense of community into their teams.
