RSCE Recognizes Commitment of Long Serving Staff
These were some of the words spoken by Ms. Nalini Contreras, Deputy Director a.i Regional Service Centre Entebbe (RSCE) at the United Nations Long Service Awards ceremony held at the Kofi Annan hall in the Regional Training and Conference Centre (RTCC) on Wednesday, 4th May 2022.
Ms. Contreras described her 21-year journey working in the UN and expressed that she has always been proud to serve at the UN in various capacities. She narrated how she joined the UN in May 2001 when there were no senior female managers with children and how she experienced gender bias but has persevered because of the good work the UN does for the world.
RSCE, today recognized staff who have served in the United Nations for more than 10 years. The annual Secretary General Long Service Awards were handed over to staff that have served for 10, 15, 20 and 25 years at a hybrid ceremony.
In all, 86 staff members received certificates of recognition.
Mr. Paulin Djomo, Director a.i. RSCE congratulated all the recipients and thanked them for their commitment to the UN. He pointed out that, just like himself, they had other careers to pursue but they chose to serve the people of the world by joining the United Nations.
Other speakers at the ceremony included both Presidents of the International and National Staff Associations who thanked management for the initiative of recognizing staff for their service and called upon the staff to continue serving the UN and to aspire to grow within the UN ranks.
Ms. Alice Nadagire Nakazzi who has served in the UN for 10 years also narrated her life in the United Nations and articulated that she had always wanted to work with the organization in which she started as a National UN Volunteer.
The senior management came together at the end of the event to put up a scrumptious food spread for the celebrants as they partook of the festivities and shared stories with each other.
