Mark Kaheru

“We cannot do our job without you in the background doing what you do” said UN Special Envoy of the Secretary General (SESG) for the Horn of Africa, Hannah Tetteh.

On 20th May 2022, the senior management team led by the Deputy Director a.i RSCE, Ms. Nalini Contreras welcomed Ms. Tetteh on her inaugural visit to the Regional Service Centre in Entebbe. The visit provided an opportunity for key stakeholder engagement and allowed the RSCE to highlight several client centric initiatives being undertaken by the Centre to improve service delivery. Ms. Tetteh also undertook a tour of the Base with stops at several key strategic locations including the Regional Training and Conference Centre, the Client Service Pillar and the Travel Service line where she got a short briefing and was able to meet and greet staff.

During her stop at the Travel Service Line the Special Envoy expressed her satisfaction with the performance of the line. She narrated a story how she had an abrupt travel requirement and the team swiftly handled it and ensured she had her travel plans met.

“We appreciate that you need time to arrange travel but sometimes, and in my sake, 80% of the time, we will be calling you up abruptly to arrange our travel. But this is the reality of our job as representatives of the Secretary General, and we ask that you bear with us. All in all, we are very happy with the service you offer us.” She added.

At the Regional Training and Conference Centre (RTCC) she was briefed about the state-of-the-art facilities available for use by all United Nations entities. The RTCC hosts over 250 conferences and events in a year and is proud to be compliant with COVID-19 protocol measures to keep its participants healthy and safe.

At the conclusion of her visit the SESG expressed her thanks to the management team for the very informative session. She expressed her interest to utilize the RTCC facilities in the future and to continue to engage with Centre staff on the services provided.
