Stay in Shape While You Stay at Home

During this period when we are advised to stay and work from home, it is more important than ever before to maintain physical and mental fitness.

Though we are advised to stay indoors, outside exercising may be done as long as you stay within the confines of your compound.

There is number of different exercises that you can practice: skipping rope, doing sit ups, pull ups and other physical exercises that do not require gym equipment or assistance by a trainer.

You should also try and involve the family in your exercise routines to keep it fun.

You could set aside an area where to do your exercise routines and remember to exercise at the same time everyday. For those that attend regular gym sessions, maintain your workout hours as before. This will help you stay in sync with your usual life in the gym.

You can also download workout apps like Nike Training Club or 7 Minute Workout onto your phone or even stream workout videos and follow the routines or join the UN Global Health Challenge 2020

It is also important to remember to take care of your mind as well as your body. You can do some fun activities with your household members using board games like scrabble, monopoly, cluedo or even card games. Remember that you are not alone in this so stay in touch with family and friends over the phone or on social media. Share ideas on how to keep active during this period and get creative.

Please do not forget to keep your hands off your T-zone that is “Eyes, Nose and Mouth’’ even as you exercise. Wash your hands with water and soap or a hand sanitizer that has over 60 percent alcohol as often as possible.
